What is EFT and the meridians?

The basis of EFT is in Chinese acupuncture and psychology but instead of using needles, well-established meridian points on the upper body are tapped with the fingers. This is a unique exercise that calms you so that you can think more clearly. Since it only takes a minute or two to complete each round of tapping this makes EFT a quick, convenient and highly effective process which can be used on any issue and anywhere to good effect.

According to 'Eastern' medicine, each person has an energy system that runs throughout the body. This energy flows through channels called "meridians", much like a series of 'roads' carrying energy to various parts of the body. If an energy system is working properly, then it becomes more difficult for illnesses and problems to take hold.

Many times we are affected by bad relationships, traumas or losses. Work related stress, depression, interpersonal problems and anxieties also affect our health. These negative emotions can block the flow of energy in our system and have a detrimental effect on our health. EFT helps in releasing these negative emotions and resolving the problem.


We sit down together and have a chat in order to work out the problems or issues that need to be addressed (sometimes, these aren't as obvious as they might seem!) and from that, key phrases are determined.  While we are chatting we start the therapy by tapping on the side of the hand, this late evolves to tapping through a series of pressure points on the upper body, face and hand while repeating the key phrase. There's a lot more going on under the surface, but that's the basic principle. Each round of treatment may also uncover deeper issues.

Perhaps your child is worried about starting school or having bedtime issues. Maybe your teenager is stressing over exams and results. EFT can also help to relieve these problems in a gentle and supportive way.

For young children I use Ted, he is my Tapping Bear and he was designed by children for children, he helps as a friendly visual aid so that children can follow the EFT tapping routines.

I had been in pain for several months. My right shoulder was sore to the point that I couldn’t sleep on that side at night and my yoga practice was beginning to suffer. When I was given the opportunity to try out an EFT treatment, although I had not heard of it before, I jumped at it because I had tried many things to shift the pain, without success. I had no idea how it was going to work or even what the process was, so I went in with an open mind. I found the routine a little unusual, but once I got used to repeating the affirmations out loud and the tapping, I became comfortable and started to relax.
